Everyday I wake up and think how lucky I am to be best friends with my mom.
While we weren’t always as close when I was growing up and living at home, now I don’t go a day without calling or thinking of her.
If you think that you and your mom can or will never be besties, your relationship with her will eventually change, trust me. Here are some of the benefits of being BFF’s with your mom.
1. Anytime something bad happens, she’ll be there for you right away.
The best thing about moms is that they are the only ones who will answer your calls right away. Anytime something bad happens, our moms are the first people who will listen and pick us back up.
2. It gives you something to look forward to when you go home.
One of my favorite things about being best friends with my mom is that every time I come home from college, there is something to look forward to.
Coming home means going shopping, watching movies, and spending quality time with her. It’s like constantly having a girls’ day with your friends.
3. She’ll always be completely honest with you.
Something a lot of people struggle with in friendships is honesty. Guess what? One huge benefit of being friends with your mom is that she will always tell you the truth.
If you try on a shirt and it looks bad, she won’t sugar coat it. If a boy just isn’t right for you, she’ll tell you right away.
4. She knows you better than you know yourself.
Our moms are the only people in this world who know us better than we know ourselves. They are the ones who gave birth to us and have seen us grow our whole lives.
This is extremely important because anytime you need advice or are struggling, our moms know what to do and how to make us feel better.
5. You have someone you can always complain to.
Have you ever wanted to vent to your friends but feel like you’ll annoy them if you keep complaining about your life? The great thing about having your mom as your best friend, is that she has to listen.
You can complain to her all you want and she won’t mind at all. She’ll probably understand what you are going through and she will even want to help!
6. They give the best hugs.
Anytime I come home, I know there is a hug waiting for me on the other side of the door. A hug from mom can seriously cure anything!
7. You learn how to be an adult.
Being close to your mom means you get the chance to become more mature for your age. It has allowed me to listen to her stories and learn from her life and her mistakes.
She has taught me how jobs and careers work, about friendships and love, and most importantly, she’s taught me the meaning of family.
