How to Get in Touch with Your Spirituality

All of us will have a different and unique journey of spirituality. Everyone views spirituality differently, but it is an important pillar of wellness. Being in touch with your spiritual side allows you to better understand yourself and the way you think.

When we’re constantly busy and consuming from the outside world, we may begin to lose touch with ourselves and our emotions. Spirituality helps us to find our purpose and therefore, give us a reason to get out of bed each day.

Everyone’s spiritual journey is going to be different. Some may lean on religion; for others, practicing mindfulness may be enough to help them find their purpose. There are multiple ways for you to get in touch with your spirituality.

1) Practice meditation.

Practicing meditation allows you to take a moment to acknowledge all that your body is thinking and reflect on how busy your mind can be. Proper meditation also allows you to reach a state of calmness where you can clear your mind and focus better.

Meditation doesn’t have to be sitting on the ground with your eyes closed. There are many unconventional ways of meditation that have proved helpful, such as standing meditation, Tai Chi (moving mediation), and even dance meditation.

Try different types of meditation styles to see which works best for you.

2. Get creative.

The point of spirituality is to get in touch with your emotions and expand your mind. You may have found that you’re stumped creatively. One of the ways to get passed that creative block is to simply start creating.

Many times we may feel like we need to create something great to be successful. But look at it through the lens of, even if you’re not creating a masterpiece, you’re challenging your mind in new ways and therefore growing.

This looks different for everyone: it could be painting, singing, acting, or anything else that you can imagine.

3. Practice self-care.

A main aspect of spirituality is being in touch with your emotions and body. One way to better understand your body and emotions is by practicing self-care.

Taking just a couple hours a week to focus on yourself and your needs that you may have been neglecting throughout the week can make a substantial difference.

Taking a short 30-minute walk through your neighborhood after work each day, free from phones and distractions can be helpful in creating a calm mind. Or try taking a hot bath to relax your muscles and mind.

4. Develop patience.

These days it can feel like everyone is only out for themselves.

It can be easy to hold anger or judgement towards these people, but in reality, this mindset only ends up harming you and your well-being. By developing patience and tolerance for others you let go of that anger and are able to focus your energy on the positive.

Focus on the ways that people are helping you grow and their role in your life. At the same time, if you find yourself surrounded by toxic people, feel free to let go of those people for the sake of your own well-being.
