7 Ways to Practice Being Body Positive

Being body positive is something that most people struggle with at some point in their lives. In today’s society, there is so much pressure from the media and other outlets for women and men to look a certain way.

With this in mind, it can be hard to feel this pressure and not get down on yourself about your physical appearance.

Though being body positive doesn’t come easily, here are a few things you can do to feel better about your body everyday.

1. Wear clothes that make you feel good.

There is nothing like going shopping and finding clothes that make you feel like a superstar. It’s pretty simple: if you look good, you’ll feel good!

Don’t be afraid to wear anything you feel comfortable in. Forget what society says and focus on how you feel in an outfit.

2. Repeat positive words/mantras to yourself.

I know this sounds a little silly, but if you repeat positive affirmations to yourself, it can change your mindset.

Try looking in the mirror everyday and tell yourself you are beautiful or handsome. You’ll be surprised at how much your attitude can change.

3. Write yourself body positive messages.

Writing positive notes about yourself around your room or in your bathroom will be a constant reminder of how awesome you are.

You will see the notes daily and eventually, you will start to believe those messages for yourself.

4. Stop stepping on the scale.

If you have a scale in your house, I know it can be tempting to step on it after every meal. But this is very unhealthy and the number on the scale does not define who you are! In fact, the scale does not give us the whole story.

Instead of focusing on the number that pops up on the scale, focus on doing workouts that make you feel good and make you happy.

5. Surround yourself with body positive people.

When you surround yourself with people who are also body positive, it will make tough situations easier.

For example, anytime you are feeling down about yourself, they will be there to help pick you right back up. You guys will be able to encourage each other and help one another out.

6. Find someone who loves you the way you are.

I can’t explain how amazing it feels to be in a relationship with someone who loves you the way you are.

Personally, my boyfriend never fails to tell me how beautiful I am or how amazing he thinks I look. He makes me feel happy about my body everyday and it boosts my self-esteem on days when I’m feeling down.

Everyone is attracted to different things and you will find someone who loves you for you! Never settle for someone who thinks otherwise.

7. Follow body positive social media accounts.

Social media is one of the main reasons I tend to feel negatively about my body. It seems that every time I go on Instagram all I see are skinny girls wearing bikinis.

Rather than feeling down about yourself when you go on social media, start following body positive accounts.

There are so many accounts on Twitter and Instagram that will help remind you to think highly of yourself.
