The Importance of Family Road Trips

For some people, the thought of going on a road trip with their family may not seem that exciting. Trust me, I get it.

The thought of sitting in a car with mom and dad blasting old school music may not sound that appealing and I know siblings can sometimes get on our nerves.

However, if you are lucky enough to love your family as much as I love mine, you’ll be just fine. In fact, going on a road trip with your family will probably be one of your favorite experiences.

Whether you are happy or sad about an upcoming road trip, I’m here to share some insight and reasons on why I believe family road trips are important.

1. You get to spend time with them.

I think the most obvious reason that road trips are great is because you get to spend time with your loved ones.

As we get older, hanging out with our families isn’t always easy. Between work and hanging out with significant others and friends, real life tends to get in the way. I’ve found that the older I get, the more difficult it is for my family’s schedules to match up.

The benefit of a road trip is that you are literally stuck in a car with limited places to go. You will find that on road trips, talking with your family will entertain you more than just sitting there listening to the same songs on repeat.

Life gets busy, but spending long periods of time with family gives us a chance to catch up with them and make up for all those dinners you had to miss because of work or other obligations.

Some of my personal favorite things to do are blast songs that everyone knows and can sing along to as well as playing games. Basically, all you need to do is to picture every road trip movie scene that you’ve seen and recreate them.

It’s funny how a simple game like I Spy can bring back so many childhood memories, give you a good laugh, and make the bond with your family even stronger.

2. You get to explore new places and do new things.

As if getting closer to your family isn’t reason enough to love road trips, another reason they are great is because you get to experience a bunch of new places with the most important people in your life.

The main reason most people go on road trips to start with, is because they give you the chance to explore multiple places. Rather than flying to one destination, road trips give you the opportunity to hit up multiple ones, and for a very cheap price.

I can’t think of a better way to create new experiences and make so many new memories. Years from now, you’ll be happy when you are able to look back at photos or videos from the vacation and relive all of the amazing times you’ve created with them.

So in the end, there is no need to stress about having to spend a few days with your family in a car. It won’t be as bad as you think and you’ll end up having a lot of fun. Never take time with your family for granted because they are the most important people in your life.
