7 Breakfast Dishes That Can Nourish You

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and we hear this all the time. While it’s hard to categorize one meal as ‘the most important’, because they all are, eating a nourishing breakfast is definitely essential.

But why? There are so many benefits to eating a healthy breakfast. To name a few, a good meal jump starts your metabolism, gives you the energy you need and helps you focus throughout your day.

“Many studies have linked eating breakfast to good health, including better memory and concentration, lower levels of “bad” LDL cholesterol, and lower chances of getting diabetes, heart disease, and being overweight,” according to WebMD.

Additionally, skipping breakfast can throw off your whole day. It sets off your body’s natural fasting and eating rhythm. When you skip breakfast, your body is not receiving the fuel it needs to get you through your day and this can hurt your productivity, mood and energy levels.

Breakfast is also a great opportunity to get in some early vitamins and nutrients. When you nourish your body at the start of the day, you’re setting a positive tone for the rest of your meals that day! Below are some nourishing breakfast ideas for a successful start to your day.

Oatmeal

Oats are a whole-grain food that come in many different forms and are a very popular breakfast option. They have many positive health benefits as well! Oats are among the most nutrient-dense foods you can eat, they are rich in antioxidants, high in soluble fiber,  can lower cholesterol and even improve blood sugar levels.

Along with its plethora of health benefits, oatmeal is a great breakfast option because you can pile on a ton of delicious toppings like nut butters, berries and seeds.

Nuts & Berries

Nuts and berries are a great on-the-go breakfast option that provide tons of nutrients and a great amount of protein and fiber. Nuts are a good source of fat and protein, while berries provide the antioxidants and fiber. Antioxidants are so important because they fight against free radicals and disease, while fiber can benefit digestion and help your gut health. Not to mention, this is a delicious salty and sweet combo!

Protein Shakes

Protein shakes are another quick and easy breakfast option that can be loaded with amazing and healthy ingredients.

This one is totally customizable because you can put just about anything in your smoothie! Personally, I like to combine mixed berries, chia seeds, protein powder, spinach and nut butter for the perfect, healthful smoothie.

Other healthy add-ins include other fruits, dark leafy greens, Greek yogurt, oats and so much more.

Loaded Nut Butter Toast

This one is my absolute favorite! Loaded toast is a fun breakfast option that you can completely change each time. Start with your favorite toast, spread some nut butter, and top with some nutritious toppings like chia seeds, granola, oats, cacao nibs and a drizzle of honey.

Quinoa Bowl

Quinoa is a whole grain seed that is rich in amino acids and a great source of protein, making it an awesome breakfast pick. If you love a savory breakfast, this is a great option! You can add different greens, veggies and even top it with an egg for a delicious breakfast.

Avocado Toast

Basic, I know, but it is so popular for a reason! Not only is avocado toast insanely tasty, but it is also very nourishing. The avocado acts as a great source of healthy fat and adding an egg is a great source of protein. Season your avocado toast, with whatever you prefer, for a basic but delicious breakfast.

Yogurt Parfait

Yogurt parfaits can become more like a dessert if made with high sugar ingredients. Go for a low sugar, low fat yogurt for an excellent source of protein, calcium and healthy probiotics.

Top it with tons of berries, seeds and any other nutrient filled, delicious toppings like other fruits, nut butters, raw honey, coconut flakes, nuts – the list goes on!
